At Gegle, we’re all about respecting creativity and the rights that come with it. We take intellectual property seriously and ask everyone using our service to do the same. We follow the rules laid out in the federal Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA)—you can check out the full text over at the U.S. Copyright Office site here: http://www.copyright.gov/legislation/dmca.pdf. When we get proper notices about possible copyright issues, we’ll jump in and handle them according to the DMCA and other laws.

If You Think Your Work’s Been Copied

Spotted something on Gegle that you believe infringes on your copyright? Let us know! Here’s what we’ll need from you to take action:

  • Your signature (physical or electronic) or one from someone you’ve authorized to act for you.
  • Details about the copyrighted work you’re claiming was infringed.
  • A pointer to the material you think is infringing—like a URL or something specific enough for us to find it.
  • Your contact info: address, phone number, and email.
  • A note saying you honestly believe the use of this material isn’t okayed by the copyright owner, their agent, or the law.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that everything you’ve told us is accurate and that you’re either the copyright owner or legally allowed to speak for them.

If Your Content Was Removed and You Disagree

Think we took down your content by mistake? Maybe you’ve got the rights to it after all? No problem—you can send us a counter-notice. Here’s what to include:

  • Your signature (physical or electronic, with your full legal name).
  • Info about what was removed and where it was on Gegle before it got taken down.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you genuinely believe the removal was a mistake or mix-up.
  • Your name, address, phone number, email, and a quick note that you’re okay with being contacted legally by the person who flagged it originally.

If we get your counter-notice, we might pass it along to the person who filed the original complaint and let them know we could put the content back up. Unless they take it to court to stop us, we might restore your stuff in 10–14 business days (or more), at Gegle’s discretion.

A heads-up: filing a counter-notice could spark a legal back-and-forth between you and the person who complained. Making a false claim here might have consequences depending on where you are, so be sure you’re on solid ground!

Our Approach

We can remove content we think is infringing anytime, without warning, if we see fit. If someone’s repeatedly crossing the line, we might step in with bigger actions—it just depends on the situation.
